Our Family Morning Checklist

\Wade and I are getting back into our routine (we recently shared more about establishing routine with a toddler, you can read it here if you missed it!) in the mornings and it feels really nice. The most important thing for us is making sure we are spending time together and we are in sync, but when we get to add other things in the morning that fuel us even more, I call that an extra win!!

If every morning was our ideal morning (hah! I wish!), it would probably include a few more things, but right now I only plan to do things that are a must for us because I know the mornings could easily take an entirely different direction within a matter of seconds and I don’t want to make myself upset or disappointed it didn’t look how I “expected” it to. Mornings are about setting yourself up for the day and it’s important to remember your routine doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. Here’s our family morning checklist:

1. Skin Care Routine

I always start my day with my skin care routine! This is literally how I wake myself up!! It always feels good to go through my routine because by the end of it, I feel like I am ready to take on the day - even if I’ve done nothing else!

2. Movement

Wade and I have just gotten back into Burn Fat and Feast...it feels SO good to start your days with some form of movement and I’m glad we’ve gotten back into this!! I can always tell a difference on days I do this and days I don’t. Even if I only have 20 minutes to get it in, I still find my mood drastically different than on days I don’t do anything.

3. Quiet Time

This can look a number of different ways. Maybe it’s worship in the car after Mav is at daycare, maybe it’s listening to a sermon while on a walk, or maybe I’m able to sit down with my Bible and journal. I know that it’s not going to look the same everyday or like it has in the past, but working to maximize the time we have (and I’m looking at all of you too, especially those with little ones!) is so crucial!

4.  Family time

Sometimes Mav likes to play with toys before he leaves or we read a book together, but I never want to be so caught up in what I’m doing that I don’t slow down to spend time with my loved ones in the morning. If I wanted to get extra work done, but instead got to spend 30 more minutes with Wade and Mav eating breakfast, then that is just as successful to me, if not more so, as working would have been!

One more important note: a huge part of our mornings actually start the night before. If you’re able to, try and meal prep, lay bags out, and get everything you need for the morning ready to go so you can focus on the essentials in the a.m. It makes more of a difference than you’d realize!
